ANDERSON CONTEMPORARY
BRITTANY CLIFFORD
"My work is driven by purpose, passion, and an unwavering love for creation. Each piece I produce is infused with emotion and depth, inviting the viewer to embark on their own journey. The process of painting for me is seemingly chaotic and erratic, moving at a fast pace. Yet, from this storm of creativity emerges artworks that are brimming with life, light, and a sense of visual calmness.
The essence of my art is rooted in my past experiences, intertwined with the emotions I feel in the present. Painting is the only way I can articulate these complex feelings, which is why I often refer to my pieces as my stories or songs. Words fail to capture the essence of what I wish to express, so I paint them instead. The colors in my paintings are never arbitrary; they are drawn from specific visual inspirations and carry intentionality in their depth and tone.
My work often oscillates between a heaviness in depth and a soft, feminine quality. Music plays a significant role in my creative process, influencing the emotional resonance of my paintings. I like to think of my work as existing in a space between chaos and calm, reflecting the duality of the human experience."
Brittany Clifford (b. 1992) is a self-taught abstract artist hailing from Westchester, NY. Driven by a deep passion for art and design, she pursued her studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology, focusing on Fashion Design and Textile Design. Brittany’s artistic journey began as a means of self-expression, where she found in painting a direct and unfiltered way to convey her innermost emotions.
Her large-scale works are characterized by the use of watered-down acrylics, spray paint, and oil pastel, allowing her to craft dream-like, ethereal compositions that captivate the viewer. Brittany describes her creative process as a pursuit to communicate what words cannot: "I create to be seen, I create to be experienced."
