ANDREI PETROV

"Painting needs no explanation; it IS the explanation. The interpretation of the pictorial facts before you is what drives your experience. The language in these pieces is nature based with a helping of Abstract Expressionism and a nod to the Hudson River School’s richly layered and sometimes epic approach.
These are paintings, not pictures. Pictures need to follow rules in order to represent obvious subjects. Paintings have no rules to follow; they just exist. The forms in these pieces represent nature through light, transparency, and opacity. They are carefully juxtaposed to avoid the obvious. It’s more important to reach the core essence of the idea rather than present a representational illustration. These pieces strive to capture the excitement of random events in the natural world in a manner that avoids the obvious and seems effortless. To do these paintings right is like trying to catch something flying through the air with your bare hands."
NYC born and raised, Andrei Petrov has exhibited in New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, New Mexico, Boston and Florida. Petrov’s work can be found in the collections of The Cooper Hewitt Museum, The Four Seasons Hotel, The Fairmont Hotel, and the Segal Corporation, to name a few. He was selected as the honored Visual Artist at the esteemed Music@Menlo Festival in Silicon Valley, California.
